Joeys (Age 5 - 8)

Overview

Joey Scouts is the section for the youngest members of the Scouting community; as such, they are looked after in a manner that one would expect. Joey Scouts are recognised for their achievements through the badge award system. The badge award system comprises Milestones, Special Interest Awards, and Outdoor Adventure Skills. This awards system begins in Joey Scouts and continues through each scouting section. The leaders will encourage and support all Joey Scouts' progress through the award system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please also see the Frequently Asked Questions applicable to all sections

How can I assist my Joey Scout with a Special Interest Area (SIA) Award?

Special Interest Area Awards are intended to be an individual challenge specific to each Joey. Parents are often best placed to assist in choosing an activity that will take about three hours to complete (including planning etc.). Please confirm with your leaders that an activity is suitable for an award. To receive their award, Joeys must briefly present the completed activity to the Joeys, usually as part of an opening or closing ceremony. Parents can often use the Special Interest Area awards as an encouragement to complete music lessons, sports, caring for pets etc.

Camping

Joey Scouts must attend camps accompanied by a parent(s) or adult guardian(s). Joey Scouts must sleep in the same tent as their parents or guardians.

Being an Adult Helper comprises three compulsory elements:

  1. Have a Working With Children Check, and
  2. Be registered with Scouts NSW as an Adult Helper, and
  3. Complete two training modules, YouthSafe and Preliminary ScoutSafe.

Parents (and their Joey Scout) can not attend camps, district or regional events without completing these three elements. Please use this link to apply for membership and become an Adult Helper.
