How can I assist my Cub Scout with a Special Interest Area (SIA) Award?

Special Interest Area Awards are intended to be a challenge for each Cub Scout. Parents are often well placed to guide the choice of activity that will take about four to five hours to complete (including planning etc.). Please confirm with your leaders that an activity is suitable for an award. To receive their award, Cubs must briefly present the completed activity to other Cubs, usually as part of an opening or closing ceremony. Parents can often use the Special Interest Area awards as an encouragement to complete music lessons, sports, caring for pets etc.
